We seek to support research that can further the goals of the charity. Specifically, we would like to see research that can:
- improve the speed and experience of the diagnostic process, including identifying GCA that is disguised as PMR and alerting people to the risk of developing GCA with PMR
- help to understand the causes of PMR and GCA
- improve the experience of patients taking and attempting to taper off glucocorticoid (steroid) medication; particularly understanding the benefits of treatment and how to limit side-effects
- improve the symptoms of PMR and GCA that are detrimental to the long-term quality of life
- develop new treatments and management strategies for PMR and GCA, including both mediations and self-management strategies
- further our understanding of the outlook for people with PMR and GCA and why people’s experiences are so variable
- develop specific patient-reported outcome measurements for PMR and GCA
