PMRGCAuk Week 2026: Join Us for a Week of Information, Support and Inspiration

Posted on 12 May 2026

PMRGCAuk Week returns from Monday 8th June to Sunday 14th June 2026, bringing together people living with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA), healthcare professionals, researchers and supporters from across the UK and beyond.

This year we are delighted to be hosting three free online webinars featuring leading experts in PMR and GCA, covering exercise, the new BSR PMR guidelines and the launch of the long-awaited third edition of Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis: A Survival Guide.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, have lived with PMR or GCA for many years, or support someone who has these conditions, we hope you will join us for what promises to be an informative and engaging week.

Monday 8th June, 2pm

Exercise for PMR and GCA with Dr Anne O’Brien

We are pleased to welcome Dr Anne O’Brien, Reader in Physiotherapy at the School of Allied Health Professions & Pharmacy, Keele University.

Dr O’Brien was the Principal Investigator and lead author for PMRGCAuk’s exercise booklet, which has been extremely well received by members and patients not only in the UK but internationally as well.

During this webinar, Dr O’Brien will share her expertise on exercise for people living with PMR and GCA, including why movement matters, how to exercise safely and practical ways to build confidence and strength.

This webinar also marks the launch of our Marathon in a Month fundraising event taking place throughout July and we will be hearing from two people with PMR/GCA who took part last year sharing some of their experiences of exercising with these diseases.

Wednesday 10th June, 2pm

Understanding the New BSR PMR Guidelines with Dr Max Yates

We are delighted that Dr Max Yates, Academic Foundation Programme Director and Clinical Associate Professor at Norwich Medical School and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, will be joining us to introduce the new BSR PMR guidelines.

As one of the co-leads involved in developing the guidelines, Dr Yates is ideally placed to explain the process behind their development and what they mean for patients.

The webinar will cover what has changed in relation to diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of PMR, including steroid tapering, and what patients should know moving forward.

Friday 12th June, 2pm

Interview: The New Edition of A Survival Guide

We are excited to celebrate the launch of the third edition of Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis: A Survival Guide during PMRGCAuk Week.

Join us for a special interview with Dr Kate Gilbert and Dr Vanessa Quick, who have rewritten and updated the book with new information, research and case studies for 2026.

During the session they will discuss the process of writing the new edition, the challenges involved, what has changed in the ten years since the previous edition and who the book will benefit.

How to Register

If you would like to attend one or more of these webinars, please email webinar@pmrgca.org.uk

Closer to the time, you will be sent meeting links for all three events and, afterwards, links to the recordings.
