PMRGCAuk Marathon in a Month Success Thanks to You

Posted on 1 September 2025

We did it! Our Marathon in a Month challenge has been a resounding success – and it’s all down to our incredible supporters. Step by step, we went the distance and raised vital funds and awareness to help people living with polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis. Whether you laced up your trainers, cheered on a friend, cooked lovely meals or donated to the cause, you’ve played your part making this campaign even better than before.

How did we do?

In total, we’ve raised over a staggering £14,000 – and there’s still funds coming in. (If you didn’t get chance to donate, the campaign page is still open here )

What you told us

Behind every mile walked are the inspiring stories of the people who took part. From first-timers who surprised themselves by completing more than they thought possible, to seasoned walkers who turned their daily steps into a mission for good. Their journeys remind us that this fundraiser was about more than just miles; it was about resilience, community and hope.

Janet told us that the campaign motivated her to start walking again after five months of bad fatigue – and she did a mile (sometimes more when her husband took charge of the footpath map!) every day in July and feels better for it.

Jackie told us how taking part led her to discovering two people who live in her apartment block who have PMR and GCA. They joined forces, completing the marathon by mid-July. Jackie said, “I’m really pleased to be part of this amazing ‘raising of awareness & funds’ effort. What a brilliant overall result.”

Fiona challenged herself to walk up to 10,000 steps a day. Some days were easier than others and when she had a small flare she took a few days to rest. In total she walked 97 miles! Her sleep has improved and she plans to keep walking.

Our support groups rallied to the cause, either participating or supporting their members who took part. It truly was a team effort.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this the success it’s been, and in the words of one participant, “I will definitely repeat it next year.”
