We know that people with PMR and GCA can experience high levels of loneliness and social isolation. This can be due to the shock of being diagnosed with a condition you have never heard of; living on your own with no one to help or to talk to; even being surrounded by family and friends who do support you but just don’t understand what it is you are going through. We have Support Groups around the country for people to meet up with fellow sufferers, but we are acutely aware that we need more support groups in many areas of the country and also even if there is one on your doorstep, it’s not easy to attend.
Befriending can help, and our Befriending Service is a telephone service where we aim to match you up with someone you can talk to, who has or has had PMR or GCA, and who also has similar interests to you.
